245 - Aesop Rock

I've heard Aesop Rock is the hip hop artist with the largest vocabulary, beating out GZA and Kool Keith.  I've been a fan ever since I picked up Float at the Anticon show.  The below mix is a bit heavy on "The Impossible Kid" and "Spirit World Field Guide" only because I think those are his best and most consistent albums.  I really wanted to include something from his project The Uncluded, but it didn't fit with the rest.  Be sure to check the videos, all his official ones are excellent, I also found some live versions, and the rest should all be the lyric videos because its just awe inspiring to follow along with his rhymes.

00:00  The Four Winds
02:44  Rings
06:31  Mystery Fish
09:30  Kodokushi
13:12  Holy Waterfall
16:42  Zero Dark Thirty

Because I love "The Impossible Kid" so much, here's a bonus find.  The full album stream and a fan synced it up to a stop motion recreation of the Shinning.

243b - Deee-Lite

Similar to Bjork, Deee-Lite always had fantastic remixes.  Many did fall into club/house music territory, but many others still played with the source material and made something very experimental in the end.  This mix features my favorites, and a few album tracks off Dewdrops in the Garden, which was their best album in my opinion.  My intention was to make one mix with alternating tracks between Bjork and Deee-Lite, but ended up heavy on one and light on the other.

00:00  Deee-Lite Theme (Global Village mix)
02:03  Party Happenin People (Sampladelic)
05:04  Bring Me Your Love (Johnny Vicious Cosmic Isness remix 2)

243a - Bjork remixes

Never a rabid fan, but I did always appreciate the depth of remixes and remix artists Bjork enlisted.  Often I preferred the remixed version over the original track in her vast discography.  I liked the Sugarcubes, but after a couple tracks the guy got on my nerves and I would skip ahead to tracks like Birthday that were mere palatable.  On to her solo work, it was really the Underworld remixes of "Human Behavior" that really stood out to me.  Though I didn't include any of the tracks here, the early remix EP with the long title was a favorite for many years.  I remember my film club in college was able to get an advance screening of "Dancer In The Dark," we rented a coffee shop, hung a tarp and projected it on the back wall for an audience of about 20.  This mix features a very diverse set of remixes that I hope you enjoy, and maybe a few deep cuts that are new to some ears.  I did keep the album version of Army of Me, cause its just so good.  Otherwise, I tried to not duplicate tracks, but there are a few in vastly different forms in here.

00:00  Bachelorette (RZA Remix)
05:23  I Miss You (Dobie's Rub, Pt2) [It's a Hip Hop Thing]

241 - Untidy and Edgier

Grunge, heavy alternative rock.  A homage to the 90s.  This is the stuff I dove into back in middles school and high school.  While most of my friends gravitated towards punk, I loved the scuzzy dirty grunge scene.  Those harder hitting alternative rock songs and such.  Admittedly, I have much respect for Chris Cornell, but Loud Love was the end of my appreciation of Soundgarden, their pop hits really irked me.  Glad I got to see them as the opening act on for Pantera and then Skid Row.  Bonkers, and I recall they all came on the stage at the encore to do a cover of "Train Kept A Rollin."  I have fond memories of seeing the Butthole Surfers at Lollapalooza, where Gibby flung paper plates overhead and shot them with a BB gun.  Catherine Wheel's album Chrome is just a masterpiece for this genre.  Also, can't say enough good about the Beach Boy's-esque noise pop of the Jesus and Mary Chain.

00:00  Butthole Surfers - Sweat Loaf
04:52  Soundgarden - Ugly Truth
10:13  The Jesus and Mary Chain - Blues From A Gun (New York 1992)
14:26  Toadies - Mexican Hairless
16:14  My Bloody Valentine - You Made Me Realise
19:56  Coaltar of the Deepers - C/O/T/D
23:38  Pixies - Isla De Encanta
25:17  Fuel - Untitled
29:12  Lanemeyer - Alarm
32:11  Catherine Wheel - I Confess
35:57  Something Like Elvis - Future Sport

44:06  The Jesus and Mary Chain - Never Understand
47:10  Butthole Surfers - Human Cannonball
50:54  Soundgarden - Loud Love
55:54  PJ Harvey - Sheela-Na-Gig
58:54  Lush - Baby Talk
