593 The Remix According to Cut Chemist

I miss the height of turntablism in the late 90's early 2000's.  For a while it felt like this genre could take over.  His DJ mixes "Rare Equations", "Live at the Future Primitive" with Shortkut, "Brainfreeze" and "Product Placement" with DJ Shadow were a permanent fixture in my car stereo.  He has mad skills, and thats the best way to put it.  Cut Chemist's contributions to Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli are top notch too.  He also released a compilation of rare/unreleased gems from Vox Populi! and Pacific 231; that one really surprised me.  I'm thrilled to see he is still very productive and tackling genres that go far beyond hip hop.

371 Mark's third mix

I think this was from around 2002, when I would visit San Diego often.  All hip hop and turntablism.  Some fun tracks in there, and a few tracks that were found in those early days of file swapping on the web.  Couldn't figure out what track this is from Invisibl Skratch Piklz, and based on the time I made this mix it really could've been any turntable crew doing a crazy track.  Omitted the last Funkdoobiest track as in hindsight I don't like it or the message it sends.

Episode 52 - Only True Grit Left in Cohen Brothers Flicks

This mix features a good selection of styles, most with a little more edge than my previous two mixes of this genre.  Iconaclass is the frontman from my favorite noisy hip hop group Dalek, Oktober was a pleasant surprise when I was actually searching for a Krautrock band of the same name.  I included some turntabilism, and the crafty live instrumentation of Live Human is on full display.  Some downtempo/illbient pieces fit well in the middle, then bridging on some industrial items.  That Nasenbluten track is just bonkers and uses rap (and The Shining) samples to great effect - though I edited a good 6 or 7 minutes of the track as the novelty wears off quickly.  EBN's one and only full album is chalk full of gems:  produced by Jack Dangers, featuring royalty on the MC duties, Bill Laswell has his hands in the pot, and they got their funding by doing visuals for U2's Zooropa tour.  And then, of course I had to wrap this all up with some absolute classics that everyone should have in their collection.
