Episode 131 - Godflesh

Here is a selection of my favorite tracks from Godflesh, which I consider the main project of Justin K Broadrick from my last post.  This was the first I'd heard of his wonderful approach to music.  I bought Streetcleaner back in middle school and fell deep into the fandom.  Around my freshmen year of high school I recall purchasing the "Cold World" cassette from a merch table while seeing a band (Shelter, Rancid, Vader, maybe Neurosis?) at the Independent Skate Park (a couple half pipes in the back of a record store).

Episode 130 - The Sides of Justin K Broadrick

Justin K Broadrick is a very talented and diverse musician.  I first came across his music through Godflesh's "Streetcleaner."  As I did my researching (before the internet is what it is today) I slowly found him popping up on other CDs I had.  I've always maintained an interest in his projects, as they are all over the genre map, yet you can always tell when he is involved in a project.   For this mix, I included most of the significant side projects, and I know I left so many off.  The man is so prolific Its hard to cover it all.

Episode 129 - Pink Floyd mix A

Pink Floyd are an incredible band with so many distinct phases to their 50+ year journey.  I had a friend that would dive into this big philosophical rant about how someone's favorite era or album from Floyd could say a lot about their personality.  I wish I'd paid more attention.  Still, I have noticed that you are either a fan or you are not, and those that are fans are pretty passionate about one era over another.  It seems that several people I've met tend to love the first album of theirs that they heard, over anything that came later in their exploration.  For me, it all began with "Meddle".  I picked up "A Collection of Great Dance Songs" at a pawn shop  Then "The Wall", and "Relics".  Their later period just never really drew my attention as much as the earlier days.  One of my past roommates loved "Ummagumma" another thought "Animals" was the greatest ever, and we'd listed to those together often.   

As such, here is 1 of 2 mixes of my favorite tracks.

Episode 128 - Devendra mix A & B

 Another overview of a favorite artist.  I first came across Devendra Banhart as a member of The Angels of Light during an episode of the Brainwashed Eye.  I bought the double vinyl for Rejoicing in the Hands / Nino Rojo and thought it was one of the greatest double albums ever.  Next I purchased "Oh Me Oh My..." and found how absolutely wacky this guy's roots were.  When Cripple Crow and Smokey Rolls... came out I saw he had sufficiently mellowed his style and was quite an accomplished musician.  It is also worth seeking out the bootleg "Yo Si Oigo - Devendra Banhart's Influences" as it contains many gems that are certainly huge influences on his body of work.

I remember wearing out my first copy of Storm the Studio on vinyl, and was ever so fortunate to find a second copy at a local store.  I still have my cassette of Armed Audio Warfare, which was my first introduction to them.  They have always been one step ahead of any emerging trends in electronic music.  Granted my massive fanboy attitude started to fall off with each subsequent album after Subliminal Sandwich.

This mix was from April 2018.  I recall vividly because it was listened to extensively while my family moved to our current home.  My 2 year old at the time, loved the Bambi song so much.  My wife teased this was the only time I'd included a Fleetwood Mac song into a mix.  We'd all sing along to Price, as you have to educate your children on his legacy.
