313a Horror Ambient

Horror, Giallo, spooky film scores and some tracks pulled from a mix that sounds like it could've been a horror film score from the always incredible Dream Weapons.  Some of these were pulled from the superb mixes at Nate Ashley's site.  The rest I have spent countless hours tracking down the soundtracks and film scores because I just love this style so much.   Due to the length, and how much material I had to sort through, this mix took me the longest to put together.  Time well spent in my opinion.

The Unseen, The Heartwood Institute and Catharsis are not from soundtracks but sound like they should be (denoted by *).  The First Bruno Nicolai track on here was listed as part of the "Virgin Among the Living Dead" soundtrack which I have and can confirm this is not on my copy, though it definitely sounds like the right composer.  The Francois de Roubaix "Beach Burial" I cannot confirm which film its from, sounds so familiar but I can't nail it down.

I have not seen all of these films, but have enjoyed more than half.  The rest I found because of the composer or were included in aforementioned mixes.

Sit back and enjoy this near 2 hour mix of the greatest sounds from the horror genre.  The Spotify mix has some of these tracks and some from the next post, because not all of this is available on that platform.

345 Spells of The Old Ways

Witchcraft/Wicca and Pagan influenced music.  Included two radically different versions of Tam Lin and several, maybe too many, Wicker Man references.  The Andrew Liles track might have been included by mistake, I was compiling these tracks at the same time as my overview of his works, and pretty sure my drag and drop ended in the wrong folder.  Still it fits pretty well here.  All the Agalloch tracks are short edits where all I wanted to include were the samples.  Of course I had to start this off with the greatest Halloween themed breaks record ever from Tino Corp.  That is required listening every October.

00:00  Tino Corp - Spells
00:38  Current 93 feat Ian Reed - Benediction
02:26  Andrew Liles - An Unkempt Garden or the Cod Cape

96 - Dark Storytelling

Kicking off the two weeks leading up to the best holiday, Halloween or Samhain, or whatever you celebrate at this time of the year.  I love the spookiness this season brings and have been introducing my older daughter to some horror movie essentials.

The mix below is one I made around 15 years back.  A friend of mine commented that they enjoyed the really creepy music I listened to as it was so different from their normal punk taste.  I made this mix for them, which they said they listened to once and realized it wasn't for everyday consumption.

Good mix of spoken word with dark atmospherics on this mix, and I tried to split up the stories with some music in-between.  Ending with my favorite, "I Have a Special Plan For This World."  That's easily the creepiest in my collection.

00:00  John Contreras & Rose McDowall - Afraid 2 (Nico)
03:09  Current 93 with Thomas Ligotti - This Degenerate Little Town (Alternate)
17:15  Current 93 - Where The Long Shadows Fall

327 My 21st Birthday

Many moons ago, I turned 21, and no it isn't today.

Unlike the majority of Americans, I did not spend the evening at a bar doing shots and not remembering the evening.  I did that on the next day.   Instead, for my birthday I attended an intimate performance at the Pike's Peak Center for the Performing Arts with the DaVinci Quartet.   They performed the below three pieces which are simply beautiful.  Highlights my quirkiness even as a young man attending punk and industrial concerts and blasting metal every time I got in my car, I was also a season ticket holder for the symphony, took my dates to the opera and ballet, and spent at least a day every month at a museum surrounding myself in the master works of days past.

Haydn - Quartet Op. 20, No. 5 in F Minor
Loeffler - Music for Four Stringed Instruments
Dvorak - String Quartet in A Flat Major, Op. 105

No download or spotify, so just enjoy the youtube videos on this one.
