Taking a little break, or maybe a long break. My kids are back in school, day job is crazy, I'll get back to posting mixes soon enough. Until then, hit me up with some comments on ideas, requests, and feedback.

These are some of the more out there tracks I've been jamming on recently. Starting this with my love of ambient country/Americana. I'd seen this Bruce Kaphan album referenced in a review of SUSS, so had to check it out. Next is a very ambient piece by Calexico which I like a lot. Hermanos Gutierrez is yet another artist I've come across via Tiny Desk Concerts. They have the best vibe to their music, I want to chill on my porch at dusk sipping a good tequila to this. Steven Wilson remixed by Fear Falls Burning is exactly what you'd expect from that pairing. Spook, the Belgian one (apparently there are many by this name), are hard to nail down though quite engaging.
This Ka-Spel track comes from a compilation called "Chillicious" and if that wasn't bizarre enough, it also features an early track from Orbit Service when they were mostly still a local Denver band (Randall is now a full time member of the Legendary Pink Dots following the Silverman's retirement). O Yuki Conjugate brings that creepy ambience and groove like they do best. This leads us right into Tarta Relena, a new one to me which was also brought to my attention through their amazing Tiny Desk Concert. These two Spanish Ladies make some mesmerizing and ancient sounding music with a modern flair. Listening to them reminded me of Holly Herndon's work, so naturally I included this next. Alluded to in the previous mix, I've been on a Laika binge, so here is their Wire cover in all is glory.
Just when you think you have every thing from this era, someone goes and posts a promo only remix of an early hit track; amazing stuff. Georgia is some dark grimy trance; what I'd always hoped some trance artists might end up sounding like when I was going to raves in the 90s. Erik Levander reminds me of some Third Eye Foundation, but without the tense fast breaks with maybe some Tigerbeat6 glitch in there. Last but not least is Frl. Tost, half of one of my favorite groups Novy Svet. Her partner Jurgen Weber has done his fair share of guest and solo released, while Frl. Tost has seemingly only released this track and one on the Mushroom's Patience solo tracks 7". I have always wondered if she would release more solo work, but have not found anything.

More electronic on this one, though continuing the topic from the last mix. Revisited a few old hip hop albums for the first couple tracks. Went with Pacifics from Digable as its a great track that I don't play as often as their "hits." Then this excellent remix of The Stone Roses, featuring Jhonn Balance sample from Windowpane - I was so happy to hear this, even back in the 90s when it was released. Never thought that Coil and Stone Roses would end up in the same sentence, let alone having Grooverider be the catalyst for that. Yes, I've been on a Sade kick lately, and there are several wonderful remixes that take this up a notch from yacht rock. When you think you've had enough of this cover song by MBM, I dig up another good and rare remix.
I should really include more from Laika in my mixes as I used to love their stuff so much. This EP/single is top notch. Then Vuelvetoloca, which I only got for this APTBS remix as it sounds more like the remixer than the original artist. I know I've included this Wetherall track a few times before, that's ok since its so dang good. I don't listen to the Sugarcubes much at all, so revisited It's It and remembered how much I enjoyed these Justin Robertson remixes.
Any casual visitor of my mixes knows what's coming next, some dubby grooves. Sly and Robbie make an appearance with an Eurythmics remix. Then a recording of Talk Back from the movie Pretty in Pink. They're a band that plays in the club, however not on the original soundtrack - I had to wait for the John Hughes box set to come up to get a proper recording of this track. Common Rider makes another appearance simply because I didn't want to include them twice on the previous mix. The Drastics I think I picked up based on the cool cover artwork. The Specials doing an excellent Prince Buster cover (Madness wasn't the only two tone ska band that nailed covering his music). Toots and the Maytals, saw some random rom-com with my wife and this was the opening track, which surprised me. Shinehead covering Sting, with adapted lyrics. And then ending with Laika, for the aforementioned reasons.

These are all songs that popped in my head over the last couple weeks. A few things of note...
The Neither/Neither World cover is quite nice, and had a good chuckle when my wife mistook the opening chords for "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," which she attributed to Motley Crue. Love her and her mistakes in naming bands and songs. She's the type that will sing loud and proud, even if she gets the lyrics wrong. I love this instrumental track from LPD, you can definitely feel Ryan's influence here as this is not just instrumental, but a dubbed out remix of a stellar track from that era. The HNIA track is from the Shaving the Pavement compilation which N0 had so kindly helped me track down - its not that much different from the album version, but it does have that trademark Warn Defever extra bit at the end. Marina Allen sounds like she nicked this one from the early 2000-era HNIA.
The Girl in Red track was a wonderful surprise, a very positive and uplifting track that I am so happy my daughters like and will listen to this. Then a rare early version of Procession, and a track from my favorite Talking Head's album (I think I may be in the minority on that one). The weirdest Joy Division track, which its worth tracking down the Tortoise cover of this one. Moving into some absolute staples of 90's alternative rock - I'd gone out for some beers with some fellow dads and they couldn't stop talking about this kind of stuff and it stuck in my head for weeks afterwards.
The Filter track is one of those songs that my wife and I could sing along to, and always forgot what band performed it. The Stone Roses from a rehearsal tape provided by Madchester Rave-On before they went private on that blog. Talulah Gosh again, because that's the namesake of my puppy. A demo from the Buck Pets which though simple, is quite an excellent track. The Walkmen, which came up on the radio recently and I realized I never really dove into their catalog much, an oversight I am currently remedying.
A rare Pixies track from the Rubáiyát compilation. Frank Turner, also played heavily on the local indie radio station. DFL48 which I have to break out every couple months because that album is just so dang good. More from Los Villains as I'm so happy I found and dug out their CD from my archives in storage. My younger daughter has very strong opinions that Operation Ivy is great, but Common Rider is just a little bit better. Heard my friends' band cover Face to Face recently and that made me very happy. Then wrapping it up with an out of place Deftones song on this mix, just cause. And a fun German track, which is entertaining to translate the lyrics.
The spotify playlist is close, but a little loose based on some of the more obscure tracks in this mix.

450 Industrial and Dub Olio
The next several mixes are me cleaning out some folders I use to hold tracks when compiling ideas for future mixes. For these, I did not have enough for an all industrial mix so I added several that helped fill in some gaps before transitioning back to some harsh noise. Also trying to get back into Spotify playlists, since that's what the kids these days are listening to - though I'm still frustrated that generally half of the songs in my mixes aren't available there.
