494A Mick Harris' Projects mix 1

This is my selection covering the breadth and depth of Mick Harris' musical career.  I can't think of any other musician that has such variety in styles.  Starting more or less as the blast beat drummer from Napalm Death, and then covering everything from techno, drum and bass, dub step (years before it became a thing), avant garde, ambient, and drones.  Seriously, this is all over the place between these two mixes.  I did include Scorn four times in total, as I wanted to represent the evolution of their sound.  Yes Nick Bullen leaving the group dramatically changed the sound, and Mick Harris kept it going and evolving to the wonderful beast it is today.  The rest of these tracks represent his aliases, though some are full fledged musical projects involving others.  Each one certainly has its own distinct sound and vibe.  Incredible to think these are all from the same creative mind.

The projects of his that I didn't include are listed here; mostly omitted due to very long track lengths.

Intestinal Infestation - Rehearsal 88
Certain Beyond All Reasonable Doubt - Live Berlin 98

493C Current 93 Remixes, Remixed and Covered

This one is a wild ride, but aren't they all?  I pulled together the worthwhile remixes and covers I could find, some fan made, others officially released.  The opening track is probably as close to a David Tibet remix as will appear, its the original track with some added effects and noise so it counts.  I tried to limit the tracks pulled from the only official tribute album "The Bells Shall Sound Forever."  The tracks that sampled C93 are appropriately labeled, though shouldn't be too difficult to find that source material used in them.  The Matmos remix is on probably the only official remix EP for C93, and its all good stuff especially if you are a JG Thirwell fan.  There's a couple fan made mash-ups, however I think they work pretty well.  The one with Bomb the Bass I've had for years and remember I had some online chats with the artist that was responsible for it, sorry for the low bitrate on that one.  The massive remix box set from Andrew Liles is here with the shortest track on it, which is representative of the larger picture for those interested.  Of course I ended it with the powerful cover by Rotting Christ.

00:00  Starland Vocal Band - Afternoon Delight (from FACT mix with some added effects)
03:13  O Paradis - Calling for Vanished Faces I
05:48  Current 93 - Whilst the Night Rejoices Profound and Still (DJ Broken Record remix)

Mr. Tibet has a knack for showing up in some unexpected places.  Other times, he shows up exactly where you'd expect.  All of these tracks feature him as a guest, either on vocals, backing vocals, or some instrument like the bone flute.

The Bevis Frond - Right On Hippie Dream (Way too long for a mix)

Nurse With Wound (A LOT! He's on the majority of the first decade or two worth of records)

493A Current 93 by any other name

If you were to ask me who is my most collected musical artist, it would be a close tie between Muslimgauze, Legendary Pink Dots and Current 93.  Here I've assembled some fanboy stuff over five themed mixes in my attempt to show the breadth and depth of their work, supplementing my previous mixes.

This first round is collecting tracks from each of David Michael Tibet Bunting's many projects.  These are all full aliases or collaborations and not just guest appearances.  Starting with my absolute favorite version of my favorite track from him, "The Dead Side of the Moon."  This is under his name with the main guy behind Nurse with Wound, David Tibet & Steven Stapleton.  They recorded this particular album twice, once as Musical Pumpkin Cottage and again as Musicalische Kurbs Hutte; giving each artist the space to wield their had as conductor. Then released several outtakes and alternate versions on Dead Memory and The Threat on Memory.  Zu93 is exactly that, the wonderful enigmatic group Zu paired up with Current 93, making some very interesting songs with a theme through the album.  Hypnopazuzu is Martin Glover aka Youth, with David Tibet.  The had done an unreleased collaboration (included in a subsequent mix here), and finally got together in 2016 to put this wonderful slab of vinyl together.  Nodding God is a project with Andrew Liles, David Tibet and an unnamed third member who could or could not real.  Still a great and bizarre album with lyrics only in Assyrian and Babylonian.  The next track is from the C93 album "Island" which is a collaboration with Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, and this particular track features backing vocals from that former Sugarcube, Bjork.

Next up are The Aryan Aquarians, which by the reviews as the result of several drunken evenings, and has that kind of feeling to the music.  Certainly not my favorite of his projects though it has its moments.  Next up and from a similar period are The Nodding Folk, which was a one off project that released this two track single and an accompanying comic book.  The artists include personnel such as Savage Pencil, the musicians are all members of Coil, Nurse With Wound, Current 93, its worth seeking out, and here is a link to the comic.  Myrninerest is David Tibet with James Blackshaw as a tribute/homage to Jhonn Balance from Coil.  The album was released in multiple versions all by different producers/mixers.  I've only heard the copy I own and can't comment on any differences.  Black Ships is one of many aliases David used in this era surrounding his "Black Ships Ate the Sky" album (which I was a supporter and am listed in the thanks in the liner notes).  This particular track was from an early single with an alternate mix from his upcoming album under the C93 name.  Anok Pe is credited a couple times on other albums, "Birth Canal Blues" is the only EP under their name as the artist.  Its essentially Current 93 during the Hallucinatory Mountian era.  Lastly is Dogs Blood Order, which is where it all started in 1983.  David only released one album under this name, and that wasn't issued until 1997.  Its his early noisy tape collage style that can really unsettle a room.

00:00 Stapleton/Tibet - The Dead Side of the Moon
21:51 Zu93 - Confirm the Mirror Emperor
26:26 Hypnopazuzu - Magog at the MayPole
29:57 Nodding God - Calcination Totem Station
34:52 C93 & HÖH - Falling
38:51 The Aryan Aquarians - My Secret Gardener
42:30 The Nodding Folk - Children of the Nodapoc Gather Round

48:10 Black Ships - Vauvauvau
52:59 Anok Pe - Suddenly The Living are Dying
55:41 Dogs Blood Order - Maldoror Ceases to Exist (Live at the Equinox Event)

I did include all 5 of these mixes into one spotify playlist, because there aren't enough of each mix to have its own

492B FSOL By Any Other name vol 2 mix 1

Round 2. In 1992 FSOL released "Earthbeat," and 2007 they released "By Any Other Name vol 1."  These two compilations showed some of the many aliases they recorded under, which were mostly early incarnations doing early 90's techno.  In my research I found dozens of other names associated with them with much more modern styles that I really liked. Each one does have enough distinct about them to feel like a separate unit.  I've split this mix in two parts, the first focusing on more recent and non-traditional techno stylings, and the second which is that classic era with 4 on the floor beats.  The only real anomaly in this mix is Neotropic, which features a one off remix by Bin Dogs.  Otherwise these tracks are all Brian and Garry... and maybe a few guest musicians.

00:00  The Jazz Mags - Startled
04:30  Sand Sound Folly - Willow
07:04  Blackhill Trasmitter - Recovery
10:41  Far-Out Son of Lung - Cow

492A FSOL - One from each release

Easily one of my favorite electronic acts is The Future Sound Of London.  I know I've gushed over them in the past, and will again here as they deserve the praise.  Here I've made just four mixes, with ideas for a few more that may or may not materialize.  The first one was my attempt to pull one track off each of their releases to showcase an overview of their progression, depth, and creativity.  A few notes as my mix clearly doesn't include everything.  I skipped the 2008 Pulse EPs (they're included in a later mix), 2014 Artworks 1, 2007 A gigantic Globular Burst of Antistatic, We Have Explosive, My Kingdom, Accelerator or Lifeforms LP.  For those I didn't find any real standout tracks, or I'd included the best track in a version from an associated EP.   Next I left Archives, Environments and Calendars off as I saw those as separate entities.  Here is what is left, and I really like this mix which is roughly in reverse chronological order.

I'm rather frustrated that nearly none of the songs on these four mixes are on Spotify.  Hoping they work out some arrangement so FSOL can get more airplay there.  I know I'd stream a lot if it were available.

491 The Remix According to u-Ziq part 1

Welcome 2025, I wanted to start with something fun that I didn't finish last year.  I had a very ambitious April and covered roughly 30 artists and their remix output.  One I neglected was µ-Ziq aka Mike Paradinas.  I first came across his work on The Autures vs µ-Ziq cd I picked up at Life By Design in Colorado Springs (God I miss that store).  Next I was thoroughly impressed with his remix of "On" by Aphex Twin, with that lovely intro where his metal tape got eaten a little and yet he still included it.  I've previously included some of his output and some of his projects like Mike & Rich or Slag Boom Van Loon in other mixes here.  While researching that remix series I found that I have a folder with 70+ of his remixes, so naturally it took me a while to distill these down to these two mixes of my favorites.  This first mix was easy as these are the tracks I knew best and have loved on them for many years.

00:00  Tipsy - Space Golf (u-ziq remix)
04:43  Bjork - All Is Full Of Love (u-ziq 1 minute mix)

12:36  Aphex Twin - On (u-ziq mix)
21:09  Seefeel - Climactic Phase #3 (u-ziq remix)
29:33  Placid Angels - Beauty Begins with Us (u-ziq remix)
34:56  Slag Boom Van Loon - spc-ch-pn (u-ziq remix)
39:02  Nav Katze - Happy (u-ziq mix)
46:00  Yo La Tengo - Autumn Sweater (remixed by u-ziq)
52:20  Matmos - Cymbals & Aspirin (u-ziq remix)
56:52  Mogwai - Fear Satan (u-ziq remix)
63:55  The Auteurs vs u-Ziq - Lenny Valentino 3
