For those of us that enjoyed NØ's Sound Systember focused on sound systems & dub... I'm still in that dub state of mind and continuing with a few of my own dub-themed mixes. Here are two more deep dives into that wild world of post-punk in dub, continuing what I started with post-punk dub mix 236. I love this style, all the angst of the genre done through a sparse and FX heavy production style. It works so well.
00:00 The Mothmen - Afghan Farmer Driving Cattle
03:41 Mark Stewart + Maffia - Liberty Dub
07:50 The Pop group - We Are Time (Dennis Bovell Dub Version)
14:12 Killing Joke - Turn To Red
18:16 23 Skidoo - Last Dub
20:42 Dif Juz - Heset
27:11 Liquid Liquid - Lock groove (Out)
31:12 The Flying Lizards - Tube
35:58 ESG - UFO
38:45 New Age Steppers - Guiding Star
45:05 Bauhaus - Here's The Dub
48:23 Basement 5 - Chip Butty
51:50 Steel Leg V The Electric Dread - Stratetime and the Wide Man
55:07 Family Fodder - Bass Adds Bass
60:21 Cleaners From Venus - Tukani (Monday is Grey)
65:39 Jackdaw With Crowbar - Banjoid Festi
69:01 Circle X - Prehistory Part II
73:58 Lifetones - Decide
Thanks, brother for the heads-up on Sound Systember. Just recently grabbed this, are you aware of it? VA - Roots Rock Rebels When Punk Met Reggae 1975-1982. Your post-punk shares made me think of these punky Dub versions & thought of you.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I was eagerly awaiting the release of that one, it is right up there with these mixes, pretty solid start to finish. Might I also recommend these:
Delete-Snuffin' In A Babylon
-Spiky Dread Issue One: Punky Reggae & Post Punk Dub 1978-1984
-Wild Dub - Dreak Meets Punk Rocker
And a quick google search should direct you to these fan made comps, which are equally excellent:
-DIYDUB
-Babylon Breakdown
-Sleeping in Hammersmith Palais
Thanks for these additional suggestions, Copied the list, will be checking them all. Keep doing what you do so well.
