Discogs Vinyl Community Challenge
Discogs.com posted a May Vinyl Community Challenge on Instagram which I found really exciting. I have a very limited presence on any social media and didn't care to share on their page or hashtag. Instead I've just dumped my thoughts for the whole month here. My responses are all pieces of vinyl in my collection and a great way for me to revisit some forgotten gems. Would love to hear other people's thoughts and answers to these questions.
Album with perfect opening track GYBE - Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada E.P.
Local shout out - hometown band Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere (Wayfarer is a runner up)
Cult classic / genre defining band Current 93 - Swastikas for Noddy
Weird or funny album cover Volcano the Bear - Yak Folks Y'Are (My coworkers often comment on this as its on display behind me for virtual meetings)
A festive or holiday themed record Tino Corp - Tino Breaks Vol 6 Halloween Dub
A vinyl and drink pairing Tipsy - Uh-Oh + Pineapple Coconut Margarita/Cowboy Mule
7" With a better B side than A side Inside Out - No Spiritual Surrender
Strange & unusual Novy Svet - Desde Infiernos De Flores
9 Records - related in some way hmmm....
Forgotten / Random / Discogs Shake Andreas Martin, Christoph Heemann – Lebenserinnerungen Eines Lepidopterologen
An album that reminds you of Mom Santana - Greatest Hits
 Under-represented genre/artist Pelican Daughters - Fishbones & Wishbones
Record from my childhood Gene Autry: Christmas Favorites
Unavailable in high school Muslimgauze - Return of Black September (original release was a couple months after I graduated, but close enough)
Perfect record for rainy day Ora - Morgendammerung / ESP Summer - EP
9th year MVC - Record from 2016 Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid
Album you love by a band you dislike The Prids - Chronosynclastic (I don't care for their newer material)
Best gatefold artwork liner notes Dead Kennedys - Frankenchrist (H.R. Geiger!)
Record that was gifted to you The Orb - Live 93
Obscure Album/Label va - Drinking to Better Days (Punch Records)
Album that a friend recommended Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is not a cold dead place
A release you share your birthday with The Temptations - The Way you do the things you do - I should've done more research as Station to Station was also released on my birthday (date only, not the same year)
Album with a fun fact/story MBM - Storm the Studio (First records played so much I had to buy a second copy)
Recent purchase from an indie shop Boom Bip - From Left to Right
Soundtrack for a summer road trip Cult of Luna - Somewhere along the highway
Album by an artist you've seen live Legendary Pink Dots - A Perfect Mystery
We need new music from... Crackerbash
One artist - multiple decades Neil Young - Decade
An album from a place you've visited Four - Live at Hangar 18
Record label love The Budos Band - Burnt Offering (Daptone)
An album that sums up 2025 so far Refused - Shape of Punk to Come (reissue)
