500c Moozlerantics - The early years

This set covers some of my earlier experiments, from 1994-2005.

  Principle B 107 - This was touched up in 2005, but is actually some of the earliest sample based work I did

  Ov -ites und -ettes (edit) - This track is actually an alternate recording from what was included on my bandcamp page, I think I made 5 or 6 versions of this one.

  Feeling Nervous - The first track I officially released, on a Legendary Pink Dots tribute album of fan made original compositions

  Feeling Nervous (remix) - a dramatically different version made a few months later

  Obsidian - One of my favorites from my high school years

  A Line in the Sand - Another from "realign the moon"

  Bonus Track (Atacan las Brujas) - Completely built using Fruity Loops and the namesake El Santo movie

  Perforate My Heart, Sunshine - Nearly all based on His Name Is Alive samples, with some supplemental original recordings

  Tuning-Preparation - The opening track from my college music project, a re-interpretation of Berlioz's Faust except I did it as a live soundtrack to the Jan Svankmajer film Faust.

  Epilogue...a new Faust - the closing track from my college music project.  Chaotic, but that's how the film ended.

  Noise with his gun (loop4) - A very early loop-based collage using samples from Muslimgauze, The Sundays, Scorn, Volcano the Bear, a several others I can't remember now.

  Influx - A performance piece for my high school talent show, I was in the background and invited anyone that felt like dancing up on stage, it got wild.  Lots of His Name Is Alive samples in here.

  Eat Me, Lord - This is probably the first track I shared with my friends.  

  Denial (remix) - My first remix attempt.  The original recording was a band I was in at the time, and I can honestly say I have zero recollection of what I was doing or how this was made.  Everything was analog on metal 4-track cassettes so I got very inventive on this track.

  Actualize and Instigate - Another from "Realign the Moon"

  Serenade in A Major - A classical guitar piece I wrote, sadly the resolving chord is cut off.  This is part of a six piece suite - though the recordings are pretty rough for the rest of it.

  Why I Love Colorado - This was reused on my only official album under the title "Seedy Market Street", this is an earlier version.

500a Its Moozler Time!

Despite my wonky numbering system, this is my 500th mix here and to celebrate that milestone I figured it was time I veered from the standard for just a short while.

Once upon a time I was pretty active in creating music.  Raised as a classical guitarist, then playing in an alternative rock band in the mid-90s, a punk band in the late 90s, finally re-focusing on electronic and noise based music with my guitar based midi converter, 303, and rudimentary 2 second sampler I attacked my imagination with ferocity.

I released one official album, one semi-official EP, two tracks on film scores, one college project, one tribute album, two tracks on other tribute albums, and the rest is all bedroom recordings on my 4-track Tascam.  I made several cassettes for friends, and traded a lot of CD-R's online with other musicians. Found a few collaboration opportunities, several artists to remix, and had a lot of fun making a racket and stretching the possibilities of what I thought I could create.

The music in these three mixes is pretty much what you'd expected based on the mixes I've shared.   Best I can compare it to is maybe early His Name Is Alive experiments, Seefeel, Plateau & Download, Tyranny for You era Front242, Nurse With Wound, Pascal Comelade, Faust, Severed Heads, breaks like DJ Shadow, grooves like DJ Wally, and perhaps early industrial like SPK.

Always unique and sometimes painful.  20+ years on I still genuinely like this stuff and wish I'd put more effort into production value and mastering.  Armed with a stack of 100's of vintage sci-fi and El Santo movies, I sampled everything from V/VM, Muslimgauze, Crash Worship and Scorn to the Sundays, Lush and Kimya Dawson; and whatever I could find in-between.  Plus I was nefarious and would hide tape recorders in my car and house when friends came over for drinks.  Everything was fair game.

Here I present three new selections of tracks, unmixed so the listener can pick and choose what the want to hear.  These supplement the five albums I have available on bandcamp.

First up is a collection of remixes.  This is where I had the most fun.  I was a site admin for a mp3 sharing site focused on independent musicians.  Many of them reached out asking for a remix of one of their tracks and I happily obliged.  Struck up a friendship with a few artists that continue today.  This complements the album "Not What You Hoped For."

498 9A Am I Seeing Doubles?

The next two mixes are also from that same stash of unearthed mixes from 2006.  This one however has been modernized somewhat.  What I found was a mix that had about 8 or 9 artists with two tracks, and about 6 more artists with only one track.  I figured I'd update this a bit, so I could have two separate mixes with one track from each of these artists.  I really wanted this to work out where it would be the same order of artists on both mixes, but the tracks just didn't flow that well together.  There are a couple anomalies between these two mixes, but I don't think it matters that much in the grand scheme of things.

495 From Post-Punk to No Wave (a mix from 2006)

Here is another one from the archives.  I made a robust set of 10 mixes sometime in 2006, covering all aspects of the music styles I listened to around that time.  This one is no wave, post-punk, and some wild and crazy stuff in-between.  I'd had this Crawling Chaos track for decades and it was tagged with the comment "Rumored to feature Ian Curtis."  I doubt there is much to that rumor, which likely came about because this album was released Factory records in early 1980.  The Anosi track is also a mystery, I have no information on it, and had actually found the same file on another blog and Last.Fm with this same cryptic title.  The tracks by Akineton Retard and Ocaso Epico were untitled on my hard drive.
